Every day this holiday weekend is a Declaration Day (h/t DWPforHill at bitterpoliticz for the title). Yesterday we published and shared the Declaration of Objections. For those of you who want to join us in our real world action tomorrow, today we prep for the declaration we will make, which we discussed in our call to action:
And late Sunday night, after the sun has gone down, take a page from Martin Luther’s play book and print it out, take it down to your local Democratic Party Headquarters or your local Obama Campaign Headquarters and TAPE IT TO THEIR DOOR. Make sure it is there for them as a wake up call when they arrive for work on Monday morning. Make your voices heard by getting out and getting involved. It’s your movement. How are you going to move it?
Citizen Action
I had a few ideas to get us started, and to make sure we’re prepared. First, some tips:
- You will need: your copy of the declaration & clear packing tape , duct tape, or masking tape (I wouldn’t use regular Scotch tape for this)
- Look up your local HQ address today, or early tomorrow. I found mine via Yahoo’s Yellow Pages. I just typed in “Democratic Party” and it popped right up.
- Take a friend if you can, for safety, and for building the movement, or communing within it.
- In case of rain: You may want to stop by your local copy shop if you have an ink jet printer. They won’t be able to read bleeding text. You could also use sheet protectors if you have them on hand.
- Wait until after dark. You don’t want some passerby yanking your stuff down.
- Be careful not to damage the building. That’s why we’re taping this up, instead of actually nailing it. You could use a staple gun on a telephone pole outside the building if you wish, and assuming your town doesn’t have ordinances against it.
- If you get there and find another PUMA has beat you to the punch, tape yours anyway. Numbers make an impact. I’d like to think the doors in places like Seattle will be covered in them, but that’s probably pure fantasy. (Somebody please make my dreams come true. Heh.)
- Consider notifying the local press when you get home. Local stories can often go national if the MSM is bored enough. And it is July, folks. They are so bored…
Just for Fun
Another idea is for those PUMAs who answer the call to this Citizen Action and who have digital cameras to take picture of your act. It’ll be your choice for during, after, or both. Ideally what I envision is a community album that we can put together. Does anyone know of a photo hosting site that allows community albums? Does Flickr? Shout out in comments if you know. We can do a lot with photos like that, including use them in Power Point presentations to appeal to superdelgates or use to lobby the press for attention. I will be working on putting together my own Power Point presentation around the Declaration of Objections sometime soon. I will be taking my friend and my camera with me and will post my photo(s) here tomorrow night.
Future of the Declaration
We need to decide what to do with the Declaration in the future. I have some ideas going for having a fundraiser to get it printed for the Convention. This idea just occurred to me today, and I’m not sure about it, because I am loathe to ask people for money when there are so many good political causes that need those funds, including Hillary still, PUMApac, and The Denver Group. I’ll only do it if enough people say they think it’s a good idea, so make your opinion known on this issue in comments. And what else do you think we can use it for?
ACTION UPDATE! Alegre has posted a very fine call to action, and offers a list of the RBC Committee’s members e-mails. She is coordinating mass e-mailing the Declaration to them over there. Please click the link!
Update the Second: Ha! We now have an anti-Puma website (PUMA Central), and no I won’t offer a link. But I will offer you this nice graphic of a screen shot I took of me posting (complete with NOPE avatar) the Declaration to their comments:

Yesterday, I got a ONE DECEPTION 11-2 dollar bill from a local peace activist. I placed that into an Obama Donation Envelope. I will be placing that into the mailbox today.

I love “A day in life of Joe Republican”too! Taped to the fridge–(trying to raise my boys right). I have a big fridge, so there’s room for your Declaration, Annabelle!
I have a flyer describing PUMA and linking. It’s tidy–want a copy? If so, e-mail me and I will attach w/response
